Cotswold accountant reaches new heights with ‘cloud’ accreditation

A big congratulations to Ben Symons, who has recently become a Sage One Certified Advisor!

A Cotswold-based accountant has reached new heights, after securing an important ‘cloud’ accounting accreditation.

Ben Symons, an accountant at McGills Chartered Accountants, which has offices in Cirencester and Malmesbury, has been accredited as a Sage One Certified Advisor.

Sage One is a web-based ‘cloud’ accounting system that enables business owners to monitor the financial performance of their business in real-time and to automate tasks such as generating invoices and recording receipts.

It also allows members of the McGills team to access this information simultaneously with the client.

‘Cloud’ accounting is set to become increasingly important in the next year, with all VAT-registered businesses with a turnover of £85,000 a year or more being required to report quarterly to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) using ‘designated software packages’.

Ben said: “’Cloud’ accounting packages such as Sage One are becoming increasingly important to businesses of all sizes and I am delighted to have been awarded ‘certified advisor’ status.

“This will further assist our clients in having easy access to the financial information they need to run their business, when they need it and where they need it.”

Simon Nuttall, a Partner at McGills Chartered Accountants, added: “We would like to congratulate Ben on his accreditation.

“I know that our clients will value his input as they reap the benefits that Sage One has to offer.”

From April 2019, all businesses with a turnover exceeding £85,000 a year will be required to make quarterly online returns to HMRC using ‘designated software packages’ in line with the Government’s Making Tax Digital initiative. It is widely expected that similar requirements will be extended to other taxes, such as Corporation Tax, in future years.
