Members of a bowls club have been left ‘bowled over’ by a donation from a Malmesbury accountancy firm.
The McGills Community Activity Fund, established last year by McGills Chartered Accountants, has donated £400 towards the cost of a new artificial surface at Malmesbury Bowls and Social Club’s St John’s Street ground.
McGills Chartered Accountants launched the McGills Community Activity Fund in summer 2018 by seeking applications from organisations in and around Malmesbury that promote community activities.
Simon Nuttall, a Partner at McGills Chartered Accountants, visited the club on Tuesday 22 January 2019 to present a cheque to the club’s chairman, John Smith.
Simon Nuttall said: “We launched the McGills Community Activity Fund because we are proud to be part of the community here in Malmesbury.
“Malmesbury Bowls and Social Club carries out some great work in the local community by enabling people to stay active and bringing people of all ages together.
“The club’s work to replace the playing surface will mean that more people than ever will be able to play the game, including wheelchair users.
“It was wonderful to be able to visit the club and present the cheque.”
Last month, a £150 donation from the Community Activity Fund helped HEALS (Help Empowerment and Local Support) of Malmesbury provide transport to people attending its Christmas lunch.
As well as its office in Malmesbury, McGills Chartered Accountants has an office in Cirencester.
