Accountants highlight the importance of payroll during the pandemic

To mark National Payroll Week, Cirencester and Malmesbury accountancy firm, McGills Chartered Accountants, is highlighting the important role that payroll professionals have played during the Coronavirus crisis.

Held annually by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP), the awareness week, which runs from 7-11 September, is intended to highlight and celebrate the positive impact that the payroll industry has in the UK.

This year more than ever, payroll professionals have been tested by the ever-changing nature of the Government’s Coronavirus support packages and have been identified as essential workers within the accountancy industry.

It is thought that those in the payroll profession have helped to contribute £325.7 billion* to the UK economy in 2020-21 by helping with the collection of Income Tax and National Insurance.

Simon Nuttall, a Partner at McGills Chartered Accountants, said: “National Payroll Week is a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the hard work of local payroll professionals during the last 12 months. It has been a really challenging period for businesses and their employees and so having payroll experts that they can rely on has been essential.

“Our team have worked exceptionally well throughout the pandemic to make sure clients have the support and advice they need. I hope National Payroll Week will help to highlight the benefits of using a payroll professional within a business.”
