Alison Palmer- FCA - Partner

Alison started her accountancy career with one of the larger firms in Old Town, Swindon. The wide variety of clients she worked with gave her invaluable experience in audit, tax financial and management accounts, for businesses of all shapes and sizes.

Alison move on to become finance director for Blackwell Brothers; a major importer and wholesaler of houseplants.  For more than nine years, Alison managed the financial running of the business, designing and implementing the in-house finance systems – even helping to pack houseplants at peak trading times!

Alison joined McGills in 2002 and became partner in 2004. Her clients are from a variety of backgrounds , including many from the agricultural and rural sectors.

Q: What was your first ever job?
A: Working in my parents’ village shop from the age of nine (don’t tell the employment authorities!) where I stocked shelves and helped balance the till every night.

Q: If you weren’t an accountant what would you be?
A: I’d love to have embraced the self-sufficiency lifestyle, with a small holding in the country somewhere – goats, sheep, chickens, and home-grown veggies and fruit etc.

Q: Who would you like to get stranded in a lift with and why?
A: Inca – my cat. She’s the only one who would be able to stop me losing my sanity if the doors wouldn’t open!
